Divination
Divination and foretelling magic is a respectable priestly, scryer and seer chapter of low grade magic. Its purpose is gaining knowledge oof the unknown and obscured, be it distant in time or space, or uncovering the secrets of a place. Of course, much as any other form of such practice, it requires large amounts of preparation.
The basic principle of magic divination is that two items in the universe influence each other and leave imprint of their essence on each other. The longer they influence each other, the more of an imprint they leave. The more essence is left on the other item, the easier is to find the target of search through that item.
The results of this practice are usually somewhat a riddle and the information provided is never entirely clear.
The item used for the spell is called a Focus. Focus can be of three grades:
Distant Focus: To the object or person of the search, they briefly shared their paths (for a few weeks) and parted again. Such a focus increases the target number of the cast by 2. An unwilling living being with relation to the object or person in search can be used as Distant Focus as well.
Normal Focus is an object of normal daily use that is in possession or vicinity of the item or person in search. Such a focus keeps the basic Target number of the cast the same. A willing living being with relation to the object or person in search can be used as Normal Focus as well.
Close Focus is an object that has large relation to the object or person in search. It can be someone's favorite trinket or jewel, someone's sword, or perhaps actual shard of the sought item. Such a focus decreases the Target number by 2. A willing living being with personal inclination towards the object or person in search, for example someone in love, can be used as a Close Focus as well.
The successful divination can be used to:
Locate an object or a person (need to contact respective players and work together on information provided)
Scry on an event currently happening (need to contact respective players and work together on information provided)
Explore the past of a place (need to contact an admin via notecard, explaining what place, and what preparations you did, and what you are looking for)
