Housing
Ribbon's Crossing has a variety of houses available for your characters to stay in, however not every character can stay in every type of house. The main rule of thumb is that it needs to make sense for your character to live there. Some places will be rentals which require OOC payment to rent, like businesses and buildings your character can own and live in. There are also common areas where any character can live that doesn't own a house or business.
Rentals
Rentals make up all of the houses that aren't businesses or common areas. These can be rented as long as you're in the group the house belongs to, so for example, you'll need to be in the Garren's Mill city group to be able to rent a house inside of the city. These buildings require a small OOC fee to rent, though are IC areas. Please don't AFK in these areas or use them as an OOC space, if someone knocks on your doors while you're inside, you're expected to be there! All of the rentals are already fully furnished, so please don't rez in any furniture of your own. Temporary RP props are fine!
Locals to the village or city will have priority over foreigners when it comes to housing, so characters who have been citizens of Garren’s mill (via backstory or achieved in RP) will be able to get a house sooner than foreigners, should all the rentals be taken. There’ll be a waiting list determining when you get housing, to make sure they’re fairly distributed. We’re also asking players not to rent more than one house per RL person. We’re not going to check or police people’s alts, but please be courteous and allow other players to rent houses as well.
Businesses
Both Old Oak and Garren's Mill have buildings which are businesses, many of these have a living space attached to it. The IC owner of the business is expected to live here, and gets a steep discount to their rent OOC. IC the business owners are expected to pay their dues to the city or village they're based in and the owners are expected to do the jobs that come with the housing. Failure to comply can lead to IC eviction from the shop and a new owner getting picked. The only way to gain ownership of a business is to work for it by ICly Rping working in the shop or being an apprentice there and gaining the shop ICly.
Common areas
The common areas are the taverns and inns in Ribbon's Crossing. Any character who isn't renting/living in an IC home is always free to live in the tavern (as long as they can ICly afford the rooms!). These rooms aren't for rent OOC and don't have a specific owner, but belong to all characters making use of said tavern. Considering the alternative is being homeless, there's always enough space for everyone in the tavern, think of it as a pit-stop for your character to explain where they've been sleeping.
Some common areas are group-specific, such as the Scoia'Tael camps in Brokilon, the Witcher keep for the Witchers and so forth.
